Service Project: Help Young Adults through LifeWorks

It's time for the Harvard Club of Austin to give back to our community! Sign up and our volunteer leader will provide more information. This event is limited to members of the Harvard community.

WHAT IS LIFEWORKS?

LifeWorks is a local nonprofit serving youth and young adults pursuing a life they love and a stable future for themselves and their families. Last year we assisted more than 1,000 youth experiencing literal homelessness in achieving permanent housing; 1,400 youth and families received counseling services for those who are struggling with issues such as family conflict, abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression and stress; and 550 youth participated in education and workforce development to help them move toward independence and break the cycle of poverty.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

LifeWorks is offering a holiday volunteer opportunity on Saturday, December 7. Project Holiday Help (PHH) matches clients with sponsors who provide holiday gifts for them based on their “wish list”. Sponsors will drop off their gifts at our East site located at 835 N. Pleasant Valley Rd, Austin, Texas.

Volunteers are needed to greet the sponsors as they arrive; help them unload the gifts from their vehicles; carry the gifts into the conference room; sort the gifts by program (all gifts will be labeled with program); collect their donation form; and thank them for their donation. There will be busy times and slower times, but it is a fun and festive event with holiday gifts coming and going. There will be time slots available for you to sign up for a 2 - 2.5 hour shift so you are not on duty all day. Staff can also offer tours of the East site if you are interested in learning more about LifeWorks.
