Harvard’s Annual Global Month of Service

The Harvard Club of Austin is teaming up with the Texas Advocacy Project by helping with the Project's Handbags for Hope program.

The Harvard Club of Austin is participating in Harvard’s 5th Annual Global Month of Service and we are inviting you to join us. HCA will be supporting the Handbags for Hope program sponsored by the Texas Advocacy Project on April 19th and 20th. The Texas Advocacy Project provides free legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Handbags for Hope is a wonderful program that helps to bring a little joy into the lives of women and children living in domestic violence shelters. New and gently used purses are collected and prepared then distributed to shelters across Texas. Children in the shelters select a purse to give to their mother for Mother's Day.

There are two ways you can support this worthwhile program:

1. You can donate purses in good condition. Purses may be dropped off at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, 5555 Airport Blvd., Keith G. Ruiz Bldg. If you donate at TCSO, kindly email the quantity to Annette Raggette at annetteraggette@sbcglobal.net.

2. You can join volunteers on April 19th from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm or on April 20th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Texas Advocacy Project office in downtown Austin to help sort, clean, label and pack purses. Any amount of time you can share to participate in this project is greatly appreciated. You may also bring any purse donations you have with you on these dates.
