UT's South Asia Institute will host two Cultural Experience Rooms at CelebrASIA. One features India's Living Traditions in Visual Art from both tribal and folk communities (Pardhan Gond, Mithila, Warli among others). PhD candidate Katie Lazarowicz (Harvard Divinity School, Masters of Divinity, 2013), who has been working on Indian vernacular art for her research and dissertation, will be screening two 30-minute collections of animated short films featuring stories various of Adivasi tribes from diverse regions. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at recreating these traditional art from by exploring the "8 Ways to Draw" an elephant, deer or fish. This room promises to be feast for the eyes as all are invited to explore an elaborate exhibit on the walls of these diverse wall-based art forms from India, including homage to great masters who established their various traditions- including a few exquisite originals from India.
